Practice Description: |
Are you struggling with depression, low self-confidence, or anxiety? Are you having difficulties in your relationships or at work? Are you finding it hard to cope with a loss, a life transition, or an illness? I am a supportive, experienced Psychologist helping individuals and couples achieve greater life satisfaction and healthier relationships. I have brought warmth, knowledge, and compassion to my work with clients for 25 years as a Psychotherapist. My approach to psychotherapy is to create a safe environment through listening and empathy that will enable my clients to talk about patterns in their lives that are causing them distress. By exploring their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and dreams, I help my clients develop insight into how their difficulties came about and what changes they can make to feel more satisfied in their lives. This opens the door to resolving the issues that they are struggling with and to developing healthier relationships and new sources of self-worth and life satisfaction.
I am a licensed Psychologist, Couples Therapist, Hypnotherapist, and Certified Health Psychologist. I have a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, one of the top Clinical Psychology programs in the U.S. I completed a Doctoral Internship at the University of Washington Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry. I also completed a Post-Doctoral Internship at the Berkeley Therapy Institute. I am currently in private practice in the Rockridge district of Oakland, California. My approach to psychotherapy is Psychodynamic, Humanistic, and Cognitive-Behavioral. I have a general Psychotherapy practice for adults and adolescents, and I focus on depression, anxiety, childhood issues, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, school & work issues, parenting, grief, and life transitions.
One area of specialization in my practice is Relationship and Marital Therapy. I help couples in pre-marital counseling, marital counseling, and separation/divorce counseling. I work with couples on improving communication & assertiveness, learning conflict resolution skills, deepening trust, decreasing power imbalances, enhancing emotional & sexual intimacy, and resolving individual barriers to intimacy. In addition, I have a Certificate in Health Psychology, and I specialize in treating individuals with a variety of health conditions and chronic illnesses. I help these clients work on self-esteem issues, deal with anger & denial, develop acceptance, coping & hope, address lifestyle issues, learn to thrive in spite of Illness, work on stress management & pacing, and improve mood & sleep.
I have been trained in Hypnosis, and I use this technique to improve concentration & work performance; reduce pain & other medical symptoms; decrease social anxiety; resolve traumatic life experiences; reduce addictive & compulsive behaviors (drug & alcohol abuse, tobacco addiction, or over-eating); and decrease sexual dysfunction or sleep disorders.
Lastly, I have taught Psychology courses on a number of subjects, most recently through U.C. Berkeley Extension.
