Practice Description: |
I am a licensed therapist with over 25 years of experience in working with individuals, couples and families. I specialize in Depression & Anxiety, and other major mental illnesses. Being a Marriage and Family Therapist, I also enjoy doing couple and family work, especially as it connects to helping a loved one.
My treatment approach is client centered and geared towards working "with you", and loved ones if you so request. We will develop a plan together that will involve psychotherapy and treatment goals built around activities, places and things that you enjoy.
When working with individuals, I will support and guide you each step of the way, so that you know you are not alone in this battle. Don't lose hope, you can and will get better with a set plan of action. Just knowing alone that you have a plan and are on your way to feeling better is very encouraging and healing in itself.
My couple and family approach is experiential in nature, in an aim to boost broken communication patterns. I am very "neutral", and feel that a couple or family problem can never be just one person's fault. Usually negative patterns can imerge when we feel hurt, or neglected, and these spiral out of control on their own in time. Sometimes huge dysfunctional patterns can start over relatively small things or even inaccurate assumptions that are sometimes never even true, just believed due to actions/behaviors in the relationship, that just help the pattern get worse over time.
I facilitate a WOW (Women on Wellness) support group, sponsored by NAMI Hawaii, and also provide MFT Post Master's Supervision to those working towards MFT licensure. I also instruct graduate school courses in Argosy's Marriage and Family Therapy Program.
