Practice Description: |
I am a highly experienced, well-trained psychotherapist. For over 35 years, it has been my pleasure to help people with a broad range of issues. My clients have included people dealing with low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, phobias, panic, depression, relationship, employment and medical issues. Most typically, people come to therapy because of concerns about relationships. Relationships may be troubled, full of anger and mutual misunderstanding. Another common problem is trouble in finding a partner. I find that therapy can help identify and resolve the issues getting in the way of intimate relationships.
Most people try therapy after many attempts at solving their problems in other ways -- After a while, they realize that talking about their unhappiness, dissatisfaction and disappointments to friends or family might make them feel better for the moment, but the sense of feeling better doesn't last. Friends and loved ones can give emotional support and suggestions, but are frequently unable to affect any real lasting change. Although they care, they are not trained to deal with underlying issues that cause or exacerbate problems..
The type of therapy I offer, is therapy in which clients work in collaboration with me to pursue increased understanding of their difficulties -- often beneath the surface of conscious awareness, that are interfering with and preventing their happiness and feelings of satisfaction -- and to resolve the issues that keep these difficulties alive.
Although depression and anxiety are the most frequent symptoms motivating clients to try psychotherapy, there are many others that underlie unhappiness -- such as: unsatisfactory interpersonal relationships, parenting problems, troublesome habits, poor self-control, low self-esteem, marital conflicts, a sense of emptiness, feelings of stagnation, and creative blocks.
And, some try therapy to resolve everyday problems such as career decisions or vague feelings of discontent.
I work with people of all ages -- from teens to those in their much older years. The format of my work is with individuals, couples, families and groups. My training includes a variety of approaches such as cognitive behavioral psychotherapy solution-focused psychotherapy, dynamic short-term psychotherapy, family and couples psychotherapy, group therapy and life coaching. I completed my pre doctoral internship at Lorton Correctional Youth Center, and my postdoctoral fellowship at The George Washington University. My experience includes university crisis counseling, research on parenting with the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, graduate teaching and supervision at the University of Central Florida, Troy University and Private Practice and Clinical supervision of practicing psychotherapists or psychotherapists in training. In accordance with the couple issues I often work with, I am a Qualified Parenting Coordinator and a Certified Supreme Court of Florida Family Mediator.
I am Past President of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. I treat individuals and couples in an emotionally safe, confidential, non-judgmental, compassionate and comfortable setting. As a practicing psychotherapist, as well as life experience in teaching and other professions, along with personal experience including parenthood, I bring a breadth of experience to most of the myriad of conflicts experienced through the various stages of life.
I am available to discuss questions you may have at 407-865-3855, before your first appointment. My fees are reasonable and reimbursable by some insurance companies. Weekday, evening and some Saturday hours can be scheduled. My office is conveniently located. I look forward to assisting you.
