Practice Description: |
 | Currently offering telepsychology sessions due to COVID-19. I will return to in-person sessions at my Ohio office near Shaker Heights when conditions normalize. I am licensed in NY and OH. |
I specialize in treating eating disorders in adolescents and adults. I have a particular interest in dual diagnosis involving eating disorders and medical conditions such as diabetes. I have extensive experience in all levels of eating disorder treatment. My demeanor is supportive and calm, helping people to open up about their struggles and find new ways to cope even while addressing difficult and uncomfortable personal issues and repeated patterns.
Though I have worked often with eating disorders and substance abuse, I also have extensive experience and training to address anger problems, obsessiveness, chronic illness, loss, self-harm, low self-esteem and relationship problems. I honor all cultural and spiritual backgrounds and am sensitive to LGBT individual, couples and families.
I work from the perspective that eating disorder symptoms mask emotional distress and pain, making it very difficult to deal directly with the pain and rid yourself of it. With warmth and understanding, I help patients be able to sit with the pain, move past it and let go of the mask.
My training is psychodynamic, but I also use cognitive behavioral techniques, when appropriate, to address symptoms that are impacting life and happiness.
