Creative and Expressive Arts Therapist
Practice Description: I am a Creative and Expressive Arts Therapist. As a therapist I will work collaboratively with you and follow your lead while looking for ways to help you stretch and move in the directions you wish to go. A session with me will often begin with a check in, where we can talk about what has been coming up for you. Once we know the issue or issues that we want to work with, we will likely dive into the arts. By moving into the arts, we are able to meet ourselves and our daily problems in surprising ways. By engaging in play and art, we are taken into the world of the imagination, where possibilities can be uncovered that were not evident in our daily lives. We can find resources that we did not know we had and possible solutions that were previously hidden from us.

We could use anything from drama, visual arts, creative writing, poetry, movement, music and more. We may even move from one art form to another to see if there are any new discoveries waiting. At all times, our aim is to work together in a way that allows you to feel comfortable enough to deeply explore who you are, your strengths, your resiliencies, as well as the elements in your life that you feel are holding you back. The arts and our discussions are our tools for helping you to move towards what you want in life.

A background in the arts isn’t needed for us to work together. All that is needed is a willingness and openness to the act of creating. The expressive arts are a low-skill high-sensitivity model of artistic exploration. We focus on the process instead of the product. The art work is responded to in a manner that is supportive and sensitive.
