I value each person I work with – it is an honor that they choose to share their lives with me. My goal with everyone is to provide services that facilitate an improved level of functioning and contentment.
My style as a clinician is relaxed. Our sessions should be a positive interaction, even if we are discussing difficult issues. Whether a therapist or a coach, my sessions tend to have a feeling of two people relaxing in my living room and having a conversation. It is my job to make you comfortable and safe so that we can resolve the issues that have brought you to therapy. I do not sit back quietly, but instead engage with you to create movement and change towards a positive outcome.
My clients are not a specific “type” of person. I enjoy maintaining an eclectic practice and work with all ages, individuals, and couples. Many of my clients are working through transition issues, while others are dealing with more chronic mental health issues.
I use a collaborative model of therapy, where sessions are more like a conversation between peers than a traditional doctor/patient relationship. I do not view my clients’ issues as coming from an abnormal psychopathology, but instead as your normal reaction to living in a stressful, complex, and contradictory world. Through a systems perspective, I seek to understand your issues in the context of your unique experience rather than viewing you as having something wrong or being broken.
I have worked with a lot of different people over the last 20 years. Each person is unique and has their own issues, the only constant is that they have committed to taking steps to feel better. It is my pleasure to assist in this process.
