Practice Description: |
Within a 5-mile radius of zip code 90210 (Beverly Hills) there are hundreds of "therapists" and "counselors" of many types, but there are only 12 Board-Certified Clinical Psychologists and Dr. Levine is one of them! Why should you be concerned or care if the person you select is Board-Certified? If you are interested (and you should be before you entrust your important personal issues and concerns to someone you do not know), take a moment and read why at: http://www.abpp.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3291
Actually, very few clinical psychologists have achieved "Board Certified" status because it is not required by the State to obtain a license. You probably wouldn't consider surgery with a non-Board Certified surgeon, so you might want to think about this as well when it comes to selecting a psychologist. You are certainly entitled to know if your psychologist has earned the highest professional distinction in their field.
Dr. Levine earned a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from the APA (American Psychological Association) Accredited doctoral program at Hofstra University (NY). If you think you deserve to know if the psychologist you are selecting to treat you has actually graduated from an APA-ACCREDITED university program or not (graduation from an APA Accredited program is not required), you can also easily find out by checking the name of the University from which they obtained their doctoral degree (if they have revealed this information) and then going to this website to check to see if the program from which they obtained their Ph.D. is APA-Accredited or not: http://www.apa.org/ed/accreditation/programs/clinical.aspx
Dr. Levine then completed a 2-year Post Doctoral Fellowship in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy at Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA. Many psychologists simply begin treating patients fresh out of graduate school, while some choose to undergo Post-Doctoral Fellowship training first. Again, this is not required in order to obtain a license, so many simply skip this advanced training.
Prior to moving to LA in 2011, Dr. Levine served as Chief of the Psychology Department at South Nassau Hospital in NY where he supervised a staff of psychologists and psychologist interns while he simultaneously served as a Professor of Psychology at a division of the State University of NY. While there, he conducted and published scores of scientific papers in the field of clinical psychology. He also achieved the very extraordinary distinction of serving on the Editorial Board of the prestigious Journal of Behavior Therapy & Experimental Psychiatry.
In addition to having worked as a Clinical Psychologist for the hit TV series "Hoarders" on the A&E Television Network, Dr. Levine currently serves as a Clinical Psychologist at the UCLA School of Medicine. He specializes in anxiety, panic, depression, relationship, pain-related, stress, OCD and post-traumatic disorders plus social, sexual, interpersonal, marital, sleep and assertiveness problems. His approach is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and he has additional expertise in biofeedback therapy that can be employed when indicated.
You will hopefully find his approach to dealing with your concerns to be sensitive, competent, caring, concerned and supportive. His two offices (one at Cedars-Sinai and one in Beverly Hills) are comfortable, relaxed and confidential. You will have the added security of knowing that he has 25+ years of experience as a clinical psychologist. To further protect your privacy, you will NEVER be forced to speak with some unknown and impersonal secretary, answering service or receptionist. Therefore, he will always answer the phone himself. When you call, you will speak only with Dr. Levine. Treatment via SKYPE is also available for those patients who prefer or cannot come to the office.

Additional Comments: |
Once you have satisfied yourself as to the psychologist's qualifications, background, experience and your comfort level when you speak with them, you will be in a much better position to make an informed and reasonable decision as to whom to trust with your very important personal concerns and issues. Simply selecting a name at random from a list without doing at least SOME background checking of your own, is a disservice to you and your well-being. You deserve the best and owe it to yourself to be an informed consumer of medical and psychological services. |
