We all know life can be tough, and this is especially true for adolescents and young adults in our increasingly turbulent world. Arete Psychological Services is dedicated to providing high-quality professional psychological services to adolescents, young adults and families in the context of the office, schools, and the community at large. I have worked with adolescents and their families in residential, hospital, school, and outpatient settings since 1987.

Here at Arete, I am dedicated to providing high-quality professional psychological services to adolescents, young adults, and families. Whether in the context of my office, in conjunction with our local schools, or as a liaison between young adults and their colleges or universities, I have had consistent success throughout Connecticut helping young people and their families. It is my goal and privilege to help adolescents and young adults regain control over their lives, define and pursue their genuine ambitions, and reconnect with the families that love and support them.

“Arete" is the ancient Greek word for well-rounded excellence in all aspects of personhood. In the spirit of this idea, I am deeply committed to assisting young people in capitalizing on what is healthy and resourceful in their nature, in enabling them to use their existing abilities more effectively, to offer new life skills, and to help them channel their development in positive directions. In all respects, my aim is to provide effective, confidential, and compassionate interventions - as well as practical solutions - while actively facilitating communication and cooperation between my clients, their families, and their larger support networks.

My areas of research, teaching, and clinical specialization include adolescent and young adult group, individual, and family therapy, adoption issues, learning differences, conduct and school problems, depression and anxiety, and adolescent interpersonal and social difficulties. My clinical approach is defined by a gentle and respectful Client-Centered and Interpersonal theoretical stance, a supportive focus on the positive, and a firm commitment to involving parents and families at every stage of the process.

I am also a registered yoga teacher, and have spent many years studying and practicing Eastern philosophy and meditation, and am skilled in blending holistic and yogic practices with conventional Western psychotherapy. My private practice includes frequent collaborations with Ayurvedic practitioners, Yoga Therapy specialists, and Naturopathic doctors as well as medically-trained psychiatrists.

I have received awards for excellence for both clinical work in general and for research on post-modern approaches to psychotherapy with adopted adolescents. I have supervised programs and clinician in a number of settings, taught psychology at the graduate level in Berkeley, CA, and was most recently on staff at the Institute of Living’s Intensive Outpatient Program in Hartford, CT. I serve as a consultant for a number of New Haven County schools, and am the Director of Adolescent & Young Adult Services for Arete.
