1. Pay attention to tension. What is it telling you? Take time to breathe in and out deeply, whenever you notice any tension. Breathe slowly through your nose, feeling your diaphragm expanding and contracting. Let go of the tightness throughout your body.

2. Make a list of activities that are relaxing or give you joy. Devote at least 20 minutes each day to something on your list. Suggestions: walk or exercise, read, write, draw, paint, sculpt, knit, sing, dance, meditate, build something, cook a healthy meal, garden, observe nature, participate in sports, call a friend, listen to music, play an instrument, and smile. Create a comfortable space in your home where you can relax.

3. Create a support system. Multiple outlets are best: join a group, rely on friends and family, or attend individual therapy.

4. If you have a disease or disorder, learn about the symptoms, your care and positive possibilities from knowledgeable professionals and related organizations. Attend to your own health by scheduling routine check-ups with all of your health care practitioners. Follow your health plan: nutrition, exercise, and supplements or medication if prescribed.
