Profession: Marriage and Family Therapist

Practice Description: VITALITY-HOPE-ENDURANCE! The spirit of my counseling invites others to move through change with compassion and care, in order to heal from the pain of the past, discover your true self in the present and build on strengths to achieve a fuller and more meaningful future. I use gentle humor within a relaxed atmosphere to help others transform their lives one step at a time, aware that each step is progress. I want to inspire hope and offer nurturing support to all I work with in individual, marital, family and group counseling.

I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and enjoy working with children and adults who have experienced trauma in their lives. EMDR is a short-term treatment for trauma that has been shown to be rapidly effective.

My counseling philosophy is to listen with respect and care, to join clients on their journey, help discover solutions, support growth, development and a sense of identity in each individual. I take a holistic approach to support each client in discovering their fuller, richer life in body, mind and spirit.

Additional Comments: EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a powerful psychotherapy technique which has been proven very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post traumatic stress and many other emotional problems. In the past, these conditions have been difficult and time-consuming to treat. EMDR is considered a breakthrough therapy because of its simplicity and the fact that it can bring quick and lasting relief for most types of emotional distress. EMDR is the most effective and rapid method for healing PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) as shown by extensive scientific research studies.

EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation, right/left eye movement, or tactile stimulation, which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that are "trapped" in the nervous system. This assists the neurophysiologic system, the basis of the mind/body connection, to free itself of blockages and reconnect itself. As troubling images and feelings are processed by the brain via the eye-movement patterns of EMDR, resolution of the issues and a more peaceful state are achieved.

EMDR appears to be similar to what occurs naturally during dreaming or REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Therefore, EMDR can be thought of as a physiologically based therapy that helps a person see disturbing material in a new and less distressing way. We must access the parts of the brain that process pictures and symbols, and connect with troubling emotions and body sensations, in order to effectively address and heal from trauma. Clients find new vitality in their lives after each EMDR session.
