Practice Description: |
 | My office will remain open to clients through the COVID-19 crisis. I am also seeing clients using online technologies. |
The Only Cure Is Strength. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). My approach to psychotherapy is designed to create lasting change in a way that other therapies cannot. We all suffer from pain and the repetition of old ways that simply do not work anymore. We often find ourselves at a crossroads – accept the way things are because we are afraid of change, or face the difficulty and fear inherent in change. Many therapies offer superficial tools or techniques to make things a little bit better, or a little easier. Such efforts do little more than manage the difficulties your life brings. If some of those difficulties include: Depression, stress, and anxiety Love and intimate relationships Family conflict resolution Sexuality and body image Parent-child conflict Drug abuse and eating disorders Balancing work and personal life Managing emotions effectively Strengthening the will/ego/self Artistic and athletic creativity Creation of meaning This may be your opportunity.
Psychoanalytic therapy offers the chance to rework the deepest inner structures of your self. Our work together will move you, not just toward change, but more specifically, to strength and power. It is not enough to be different or to stop doing unhealthy things; we must strive to overcome, to achieve a power in body, mind, and spirit that lets us create and nurture the true and authentic self. From a place of power we can then enter relationships, physical and emotional intimacy, careers, physical endeavors, and even rest and relaxation in a way we have never before experienced.
As Hanna Segal said, “The human mind is an achievement, not an endowment.” When you want to go beyond weakness and achieve the power necessary to create yourself, to make your life its own aesthetic event, it can be done. It is not an easy or a fast process. Small steps and little victories are the core of the work. Because it is based on accessing the deepest levels of your being, the work requires a level of honesty and courage you may find daunting. Any therapy that offers an easy or painless transformation is a fraud that exploits the weakness and fear that must be overcome.

Additional Comments: |
The Only Cure is Strength. Psychoanalytic therapy working with individual adults, adolescents, and couples to understand and resolve depression, stress, and anxiety. Marriage and family conflict resolution including difficult children and adolescents. Sexuality and body image, eating disorders, all types of addiction, love and intimate relationships, balancing work and personal life, and managing emotions effectively. The focus is on strengthening the will/ego and recognizing the unconscious patterns that interfere with personal and professional functioning. Difficulties are often tied to family of origin issues and the relational dynamics that have become internalized. The goal is to initiate a new developmental process that corrects early failures and leads to increased autonomy, a conscious and aesthetic self-creation, and the creation of meaning. This is possible only through a therapeutic relationship that strengthens the self through my deep and respectful listening to you. |
