Practice Description: |
There are times when our coping strategies no longer seem to be working well. These moments can present at the beginning or the end of a close relationship. A change in the family such as children leaving the 'nest' or the onset of retirement can present new problems. Starting a family, helping children who are challenged in school, or caring for elderly parents may leave us feeling overburdened. Change or frustration about our employment status are other major sources of stress that can be difficult to address successfully on our own. As a result, we may feel anxious, depressed or unsure about how to achieve the well being we seek.
I focus on how to overcome these feelings and achieve the quality of life you seek. The treatment approach is collaborative, direct and individualized to your needs. The approach I use may include aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Coaching, or Relational Therapy. I can provide psychoanalytically oriented individual psychotherapy for clients in need of a long term therapeutic alliance.
My diverse background as a clinical psychologist includes private practice, Veterans Administration inpatient and outpatient settings and college faculty membership in Ph.D. psychology programs where I supervised graduate students and clinical staff members. Recently, I have served as a Military Family Life Consultant on military bases assisting families with deployment. I have had a business in career counseling and outplacement and have published on the subjects of major psychoses and sex role perception.
