Practice Description: |
My name is Christopher S. Elgin. I have been working with children, teens, and adults since 1988. I have been providing therapy for Corvallis and the surrounding communities since 2002. My experience is with a broad spectrum of physical, mental, and emotional difficulties. In my practice, I do work with people in a traditional therapeutic setting; however, I offer other methods that have been effective with clients who have otherwise not been receptive to treatment. The following are some of the services I provide.
Individual Counseling: This medium is focused on helping a person to better understand his/her perceptions, their origins, and how these affect current life struggles.
Family Counseling: (Including parent-child, Marital, and couples counseling) Through this systems approach, people in relationships improve methods of communication and explore ways to better support each other.
Experiential Therapy: With the use of structured play, a person’s strengths and patterns naturally surface. Play is the “natural medium of expression for all children; bridges the gap between concrete experience and abstract thought.” Sue C. Bratton, Ph. D, LPC-S, RPT-S.
Animal Assisted Therapy: A certified therapy dog is present for the majority of sessions. Research compiled by Aubrey H. Fine, ED. D. lists benefit of animals when addressing issues of attachment, stress reduction, and socialization to name a few.
EMDR: This method is used to treat posttraumatic stress disorder.
