Practice Description: I'm a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of clinical experience. I was trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy and existential psychotherapy. My approach is solution focused. I work with you to determine your own treatment goals. Patients may return from time to time, for a "tune up," or to address novel issues. I provide solution focused relief for my patients suffering from anxiety, depression, OCD, mood disorders, and relationship problems.

My style is collaborative. Patients like the fact that I do more than just listen. I raise questions, get them thinking, make suggestions, and engage actively with clients to help them feel better.

Creativity is a part of everyone's life. If you have a living space, you have to figure out where to put the furnishings, that’s creativity. There’s creativity in problem solving. Creativity is therapeutic. It brings happiness. People don’t think of themselves as creative but even when they’re getting dressed and picking an outfit, that’s what they’re doing. It’s an aspect of self-expression. People do it every day. I try to infuse my therapy with creativity, as it becomes relevant to treatment.

I am also an oil painter focusing on realistic and impressionistic portraiture, using both wet-on-wet and grisaille indirect painting techniques. I use my direct knowledge of the creative process to work with Actors, Artists, Singers, Producers, Cinematographers and other creative people. Common themes among creative types include performance anxiety, balancing day job with rehearsals, promoting the business side of their art, getting to the next level of creativity, creative stagnation, believing in their goals and projects, and coping with difficult or painful memories that their work dredges up.

Additional Comments: I run an evening group therapy for people who are new to New York City. Many people come to New York City from elsewhere. Acclimating to NYC can be daunting and challenging. As a native New Yorker, I help patients thrive and find their strength in the Big Apple.

The goals of the group include:
Normalizing the challenge of putting down roots in NYC.
Coping with self-doubt in a town so rich with talented, ambitious people.
Coming to terms with the pace and energy of New York
Dispelling myths about New Yorkers and fellow 'newbies.'
Determining your assumptions about socializing in NYC and seeing how those beliefs shape your efforts to develop a network of friends, lowers, acquaintances and work friends.
Developing strategies for networking and acclimating.
Learning to have patience.

Each week we start with a different topic, and end with things to do in NYC. Patients share their experiences. Group dynamics and the roles of each group member are examined.

This group is open to men and women, ages 21--38. While different ages present different challenges, a mixture of ages helps provide perspective for all group members.

The cost is $45/per session, out of pocket. There is rolling admission into the group, which is limited to 6-8 people at any one time.
