| Practice Description: |
I work from a direct and interactive approach. I focus on the clients capabilities to create the changes he/she desires. My therapeutic style combines cognitive/reality therapy with interpretive and supportive communication and coaching, when indicated. I offer EMDR sessions, as well. I often use specific and concrete assignments to provide the client with discoveries and experiences that demonstrate that their previous self-concepts and beliefs, which were once useful, although self-inhibiting, are now unnecessary and discard-able. The most essential element of therapy is to provide the client an experience of safety, acceptance, familiarity and ease, and an opportunity to operate from his/her essential self, within the boundaries of a therapeutic relationship. The goal is to provide behavioral and emotional maps designed to enhance the client’s functioning in all aspects of his/her life. My clients appreciate my honest and direct style. I am intuitive and have had many years experience with issues often considered difficult to discuss: sexuality, addictions, adolescent concerns and behavior. I am very funny and an associative thinker and can come up with analogies, metaphors and images to soften difficult issues and approaches. My background in improvisational theater adds to my facility as a quick-thinker. I am also a writer, and have ADHD and those work in tandem for me to be able to remember every detail of someone’s “story” and make connections, leaps and interpretations with ease. My ADHD also serves me: when I am getting bored often the client is willing to talk but not take action, and I hear the same things repeatedly without any steps for change. I willingly share my intuitions, feelings, and experiences when I think they are clinically indicated. My practice is unique, distinct and different because of my preference for adolescents and clients who are often seen as ‘messy or difficult’ because of dual diagnoses and addictions.. I am told by adolescents that ‘you are the first adult to tell me the truth,’ and “you don’t seem to be like other adults.” I take these comments as indicators of my honesty and my ability to listen and embrace the issues and concerns brought to me by adolescents. No topic is off-limits and they know that.

| Insurance and Billing Instructions: |
I do not use insurance because i do not want to compromise the confidentiality of my clients nor do I want an outside organization which is motivated by limiting funds and uneducated in the needs and services of psychotherapy, to dictate protocol. The measure for them of a job well done is to limit sessions and financial aid. this approach is antithetical to offering services where the client and therapist determine goals, therapeutic interventions, outcomes and time for termination. I don't want my clients to have a paper trail on their personal lives nor an outside party involved in their decisions. I will provide invoices with a diagnosis, upon request for individual submissions to insurance providers. |
