| Practice Description: |
My professional experiences have led to the practice philosophy that wherever we are on our journeys at this moment can help to develop insight into and awareness of the self, our perceptions and ultimately the choices we make. Therapy is a process of learning about ourselves in a new light in order to live in a way that is meaningful and more comfortable than our lives may be now. Those seeking therapy are often experiencing distress that has either become more severe over time or has occurred suddenly. Whatever the reason, making the choice to begin therapy is a courageous and necessary step towards wellness.
One of the most effective methods utilized in therapy today is cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt). Simply put, cbt is a model which postulates that our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us which have been shaped by our thoughts, our actions, and our experiences can influence our feelings. The therapy process examines this in more detail and also takes into account the possible medical and environmental factors contributing to distress. As areas of insight are developed throughout the process of individual therapy, new skills are developed and learned to provide short and long term relief. In some cases, group therapy may be recommended as an adjunct to further develop specific skills or for additional support.
Any questions about therapy or scheduling an appointment, please feel free to email or call.
