Practice Description: Are you troubled by certain life-situations, behaviors, overwhelm, anxiety or difficult emotional states? I help people uncover the root-causes of their distress and access inner resources and tools to create change. Often our deepest struggles are caused by parts of ourselves that we are not fully aware of. My job is to help you reconnect with these parts of yourself, some of which may be wounded, scared, angry or suffering and each of which has wisdom to share. By helping you compassionately reconnect with and learn to listen to these parts, you can discover more about your deepest experiences, highest hopes, passions and gifts and learn how to make lasting changes.

My work combines mindful & experiential approaches with cognitive-behavioral & Solution-focused techniques. This means that, in addition to talking about your thoughts, feelings and actions, we will pay attention to accompanying bodily sensations, movements, impulses and gestures. This greatly helps you understand your experiences with safety, curiosity and depth. In our sessions we work together to: 1) discover core beliefs that have been holding you back or contributing to your distress, 2) practice studying your experiences 3) tailor tools matched to your strengths and style for making changes in your everyday life-experience.

Because I am also a massage therapist, and a movement teacher, sometimes my clients' goals can best be met by using integrated or concurrent services. However, using counseling with massage or movement work, requires thorough therapeutic consideration to determine whether or not it would be clinically advantageous. Additionally, before this occurs, the client and I will discuss the potential advantages and disadvantages, determine our objectives, and lay clear parameters for the work. For more information about this, please see the "integrated modalities" page on my website: http://www.selfawarenesscounseling.com/Integrated modalities.html
