| Practice Description: |
Some counselors are pretty committed to a particular kind of therapy and do real well but most draw on a number of ways of doing this work to suit the needs of their client . That's how I do my work as well. Therapy works best when my clients and I know each other well enough to trust each other enough to do the work at hand.
I think personal insight is great stuff. After a while I decided that feelings were the way to go. With family dynamics not only did I get to know myself but everyone else . Gender conditioning, cultural and ethnic differences, class membership big players one and all. Then there's about 10 addictions out there.
For all of that I believe a counselor needs to know how to mix it up with their clients. I believe that as individuals and as professionals, therapists are trying to use all they know to help their clients sort it out. And that's what I do as well.

For most of my career I have worked in inpatient or out patient settings for the treatment of chemical dependency. In that setting I became an expert short term therapist for persons with a wide range of personal issues other than their problems with addiction. For the last two years I have been working as a sole practitioner in Blue Heron Counseling. |
