Elena helps her clients become more self-aware. By becoming more self-aware, her clients can make better choices and build healthier and more satisfying lives.
Elena uses tactics tailored to each client to help each client become more self-aware. Elena finds that children and adolescents respond well to art and play therapy. Busy professionals often find Elena's focus on mindfulness effective.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) works well with children and adults who have experienced trauma and still suffer from anxiety arising from the trauma.
Success with Children
Elena counseled a nine year old boy who had developed a fear of death after having the wind knocked out of him while playing hockey. Elena used EMDR, art therapy and conventional talk therapy to substantially reduce the boy's anxiety level in only three sessions.
Elena recently worked with a very bright, six year old girl. The little girl was anxious about visits to her doctor or dentist. She was also anxious about taking prescribed medication. Elena asked the girl to draw pictures of her earlier visits to the doctor and dentist. They talked about the pictures and her earlier visits. Elena asked the girl to imagine and draw more positive visits. After only a few sessions, the mother reported that her daughter was no longer anxious about visiting the doctor or dentist and was much less resistant to taking prescribed medication.

Success with Adults
Elena has counseled a business owner who sought help to create a better balance between his work and home life. She has assisted a father following a divorce repair his relationship with his children. Elena has worked with a college professor to help her understand why she was reluctant to commit more fully to her relationship with her partner. A woman who had been in therapy for years to address issues arising from abuse during childhood, reported that after five EMDR sessions with Elena, she had finally arrived at a place where she could move forward without dragging with her the pain from her past.

Success with Teenagers
Elena recognizes that it is not easy for teens to navigate middle school and high school on the Northshore. Nor is it always easy for parents to know how to help. Herself a mother of three teens, Elena has worked with teenaged boys and girls on issues of self-esteem, substance abuse and emergent sexuality. Elena has found that drawing and painting often help teens identify what they are feeling and develop strategies to deal successfully with the issues they are confronting.
