Mindfulness-Based Therapy for Overeating
Practice Description: Sometimes symptom relief is just not enough. As a humanist therapist, my approach is to leverage Wellness and Well-being, to assist in your Search for Meaning, and to facilitate Enduring Change. I like working with individuals and couples, and I offer many different groups. I specialize in addiction, health psychology/behavioral medicine, and habit control.

I have worked and trained in a variety of settings that include: psychiatric hospitals, university counseling centers, community mental health centers, veterans' hospitals, cancer hospital, family medical practice, pain clinics, county jails, and private practice.

Therapy process doesn't have to be dry. I offer experiential demonstrations and, when needed, supplement the therapy process with clinical "homework."

I offer an eclectic, integrated treatment approach that consists of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, Logotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectic and Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-based Therapy, Brief-Dynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

I am an author of "Eating the Moment: 141 Mindful Practices to Overcome Overeating One Meal at a Time" (New Harbinger, 2008) www.eatingthemoment.com. I have a book on perfectionism coming out in the summer 2010 (through New Harbinger Publications). I also have several publications in professional (peer-reviewed) journals on the topics of substance use, psychodrama, logotherapy, and hospice outcome research.

Additional Issues Addressed:

Life Transitions, Caregiver Stress, Codependency, Control Issues, Creative Blocks, Food Issues, Emptiness, Forgiveness, Anger, Grief & Loss, Habits, Affair Recovery, Life Purpose/Meaning, Trauma, Self-Confidence, Perfectionism, Sensitivity to Criticism, Sex Issues, Trust, Workplace Issues, Worthlessness.

I look forward to hearing from you!
