| Practice Description: |
Counseling should be a life-changing experience that helps to move your life in a more rewarding direction. It can help you learn to better manage stress, promote your growth in relationships, develop career goals, identify and decide upon the best approach to problems, and express emotions in an adaptive, communicative manner.
My training and services are informed by psychodynamic/analytic and cognitive concepts. I have found that this is the most effective and helpful approach to tailoring psychotherapy to each of my clients' unique background, relationships, life struggles and treatment goals.
During the first few meetings we will discuss the issues that brought you to counseling, as well as your earlier life so that we can work together within your life experience. The goal of this process is to establish a shared understanding of what works well in your life, situations or decisions that must be accepted, managed, or changed, and what you hold most precious. This understanding will direct how you initially set goals and focus your treatment. The psychotherapy process is dynamic, however, and your goals may change as your counseling deepens. You will be in charge of your life process, and you will make decisions regarding direction, pace, start and completion of counseling.
Given my training as a generalist and work in university counseling centers, a forensic agency, and hospital I have wide experience working with a many cultures, identities, employment and career backgrounds, socio-economic status, emotional and psychological issues. You and I will create the psychotherapy process together, constantly discussing progress - what works and what is not helpful.
