Dr. Roatta specializes in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for OCD, anxiety and depression. This straight-forward approach helps you identify triggers (such as negative intrusive thoughts or stressful situations) which create uncomfortable feelings. The resulting sadness &/or anxiety leads to behaviors such as avoidance or compulsions. This short-term approach helps you break self-defeating cycles to reduce negative behaviors and decrease these feelings. In addition, Dr. Roatta specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (a form of CBT) which teaches patients to regulate mood swings, tolerate painful emotions and decrease self-destructive/ self-injurious behaviors.
Dr. Roatta's clinical training was done at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, where she also held a voluntary faculty position until 2003. She has co-authored several publications in the field of behavioral medicine, and has co-presented at eleven national conferences. She offers full psychological testing/evaluations of adolescents and adults. Treatment is provided in English and Spanish in the Coral Gables/South Miami area.
