| Practice Description: |
As an adult and child psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, I have over 45 years of practice and teaching related to the diagnosis and treatment of emotional problems. Some problems such as ADD or ADHD lend themselves to a medication approach; others like anxiety and depression often require a different modality. I have taught the diagnostic and therapeutic skills at the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, and at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, always focusing on the unique diagnostic challenge of finding the best therapeutic modality be suited to each individual patient. I use a problem-centered empathetic insight - oriented approach which identifies the source of the problem, be it an acute or chronic issue, and quickly work towards a solution by harnessing and recognizing strong and often unrecognized strengths of the personality. My goal in therapy is to always create a safe and ego building environment where any feelings can be explored and directed always towards expanding self-esteem and to help build a stronger, more intact person who celebrates their individuality and is able to make positive choices.

ETHOS: What is the goal of therapy? To live a happy, fulfilled life. Ultimately, noble virtues such as compassion, honor, responsibility, and the capacity to love fully and expansively, are the goal of personal growth. We can only reach those goals when we disencumber ourselves from (often unconscious) fears and anxieties which weigh us down. Therapy, when done well, will help us to acquire the courage necessary to overthrow our own inner demons and to change. |
