I believe there is always hope. I have counseled adolescents, families and adults for over 20 years, and I have seen amazing change and growth. I work with children, adolescents, families, couples, and adults. I specialize in areas of depression, anxiety , trauma, anger regulation, child abuse (in children and adults), domestic violence, and divorce. I am comfortable with adolescents and their families who are struggling with school, frunning away , and criminal behavior. The 'average' family with 2 kids and 2 biological parents is more of a myth than the norm. Many families have to cope with multiple sets of caregivers and different combinations of kids in the home at any given time. You know that your kids have had to adjust with changes and attempt to understand things that are difficult for adults to handle. When adolescents are having trouble coping it comes out in anger, depression, drug use, and defiance. It seems like kids listen the least when they need to hear the most. to make matters worse they tell parents even less than they listen. You know your kid, you know there's a problem. It shows up in the home, school, and in the community. This is the time to get help, don't wait and hope they will 'grow out of it'. I believe this is the time for therapy to support the family in supporting the child.
