Practice Description: If you are reading these words, you must be feeling that some aspect of your life is not working well. Everyone goes through difficulties, but sometimes we are overwhelmed by worry or sadness, troubled relationships, or painful memories. Life is a journey, and it can be easy to lose our way. My goal is to help you find your way to your strongest and best self. I've been a practicing psychotherapist since 1987. Over the years I have developed specialty areas in anxiety, depression, anger, and relationship issues. However, I do not believe that any client can simply be reduced to a problem category or diagnosis. I am continually amazed at the uniqueness of each of my clients. Each client must be understood within the context of their developmental history and their current life circumstances. Each client deserves respect and compassion for the distress they are experiencing. I strive to ensure that my clients feel they are in a safe and supportive environment, where they can talk freely about those things that may be difficult to talk about elsewhere.

I begin therapy with assessment, where we will identify the factors (family history, genetics and biology, developmental history, life experiences) that have contributed to your current concerns. My initial treatment approach is usually problem-centered and cognitive-behavioral. However, if appropriate we may pursue a longer-term, psychodynamic approach.

I love my work. I find each of my clients to be interesting and deserving of my maximum attention. I make a point of requesting ongoing client feedback (via a written form) about satisfaction with the progress of therapy. This helps ensure that therapy stays focused and productive.

Additional Comments: Research has clearly established that a positive client-therapist relationship - known as the therapeutic alliance - is one of the key factors leading to successful psychotherapy. It is important that clients have good personal chemistry with their therapists. You should feel respected, supported, understood, and safe. Whether you do a phone consultation or an initial assessment, I will make a point of checking with you to make sure you are comfortable, and will strive to make it easy for you to make a decision about proceeding with therapy
