| Practice Description: |
With 25 years experience working in the public and private sector, I have developed a unique counseling style helping my clients and their families with the challenges inherent in life transitions. My practice often focuses on legal and safety issues in the home and community. I frequently work with individuals and families caught up in the legal system, and am comfortable addressing issues and court ordered treatment services regarding Domestic Violence, Anger Management, PTSD, Depression/Anxiety, Victim Transformation, Marriage Counseling, and Sexual Addiction/Compulsion. I am willing to work with clients individually or in a group setting. I have several therapeutic groups for men struggling with sexually addictive behavior. I am also qualified to provide court-ordered assessments in Sexual Deviancy, Domestic Violence, Mental Health, and Psycho-Social Evaluations. I recognize that individuals and families struggling with these issues will be severely impacted in all areas of life, including social, vocational, financial, and intimate relationships. I have confidence in the power of therapeutic intervention to make change that will dramatically improve quality of life.
In my practice, I utilize a number of evidence-based treatment, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Rational Emotive Therapy (RET), and Reality Therapy. Still, I am wise enough to recognize that no “one-size-fits-all.” Each new client brings to therapy his or her own determination and will, as well as their vulnerabilities. My goal is to establish a trusting relationship with my clients so that together, working collaboratively, we can bring to bear your strengths and resources to address the problem. I believe that clients do the best they can with their problems and may have had little or no responsibility for how the problem developed, but are left with no other choice but to take the responsibility to find a solution. Given that, I endeavor to create an open, honest, safe and confidential space in which to address these sensitive issues. After many years working in a variety of settings, I doubt that a client could bring to counseling a problem – even sexual deviancy – that I have not treated. I encourage clients to avoid shame-based self-appraisals, and attempt to begin counseling with the hope that empowers. My goal as a therapist is to help you learn how to create for yourself a quality life…a life worth living.
