| Practice Description: |
Gay men and lesbians require a therapist who is knowledgeable of the unique stresses and life experiences that impact them. These may include internalized homophobia, rejection from peers and family and discrimination in the workplace. It can be difficult to form a positive self-image and form healthy relationships when facing these impediments. Together we can examine what is getting in the way of achieving your goals and feeling better- and then work towards resolving the problem. Since 1996 I have helped many people, gay and otherwise, cope with depression, anxiety, sexual compulsion, relationship problems, addictive disorders-- or just regular "life problems". I can help you recognize your "blind spots": those behavior patterns, beliefs, and attitudes that you may not be aware are adversely affecting your ability to have healthy relationships, enjoy meaningful work, and really appreciate life. In addition to helping you understand how your past experiences and relationships may be unknowingly influencing your present mood and life choices, I will work with you in reducing your stress and uncomfortable feelings "in the now". Most of us are not aware of how our thoughts, feelings, and behavior are interconnected-- and can reinforce self-sabotaging attitudes and emotions.

| Additional Comments: |
Choosing a therapist is an important- and often anxiety-provoking- endeavor. You have to feel that you are with a therapist who understands your background, is concerned and caring, and is able and willing to tell you the things you may not want to hear. The best way to decide if you and I are a "good fit" as therapist and client is to schedule an initial session or two and see how it feels. I work at a pace that takes into account your abilities and needs. I work with both individuals and couples. |
