| Practice Description: |
At its best, I believe that good therapy is a gift that you can give yourself. It is a gift of understanding, compassion, and clarity, and it can lead to peace of mind, better relationships, the ability to enjoy what is good in life, even when difficult things happen.
The old saying, "What is shareable is bearable," is actually true, and essentially forms the backbone of my philosophy of working with people. Being able to talk about what is troubling you, and be truly understood and cared for, actually helps your brain deal with stress and painful memories more effectively, leaving you with more capacity to act effectively to solve whatever problems you are experiencing.
One of my specialties is working with couples. If you and your partner are struggling with issues that are hurting your once loving, satisfying relationship, I can help you talk to each other about the heart of the issue without getting sucked back into that same cycle of frustration and disappointment. Even with couples on the brink of breaking up or divorce, I have a good track record of helping people come back together, with a new way of talking through problems so they really feel resolved instead of swept under the rug.
I also often work with people who have survived trauma and abuse. If you find that the painful things that have happened to you in the past are keeping you from moving forward with goals and dreams, or finding fulfilling relationships, I can help you to make peace with the past, and enjoy your present more fully.
I also have considerable experience working with people who have some involvement with adoption, whether as birth parents, adoptees, or those who have adopted or are considering adoption. When adoption is a part of your life, it is important to choose a counselor who is sensitive to the feelings and knowledgeable about the considerations involved in it.
