| Practice Description: |
I am a clinical psychologist who has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and their families. I specialize in the areas of ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and other disruptive behavior problems, depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, self-esteem issues, grief and loss, autism spectrum disorders, relationship issues, and trauma. I also specialize in parent training, in which I am able to work with parents to teach them effective skills in parenting. I work in four different practices throughout the Detroit area for your convenience.
I utilize different therapeutic approaches, based on the client with whom I am working. Most often when working with children, I utilize a play therapy approach to treatment. I believe that children express themselves best through play. Therefore it is more beneficial and relevant to uncover the issues a child may be experiencing through play instead of talk therapy. Children can learn effective coping strategies through play as well. I have found that play therapy is the most practical intervention toward reaching treatment goals with children.
When working with adolescents and adults, I most often utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach to treatment. I believe that most often our problems develop from and continue as a result of self-defeating thoughts and behaviors. In treatment I work with the client to identify unhealthy thinking and behavior patterns that may be contributing to the problem. I will then teach the client effective strategies to change these patterns to ones that are more healthy. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy has been clinically proven as one of the most successful approaches to treatment and often preferred by most insurance companies and EAPs.
Lastly, I believe in a comprehensive approach to treatment in which I work closely with all areas of intervention involved. This often includes parents, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, schools, speech therapists, and occupational therapists. Without this approach, everyone works individually for themselves instead of together for the client. If you have any questions regarding my practices or therapeutic technique, please feel free to contact me at any time. I understand that taking the appropriate steps toward intervention can be difficult, overwhelming, confusing, and embarrassing at times. I am willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have to ease your mind about the therapeutic process.
