| Practice Description: |
We all experience feeling stuck at various points in life. Sometimes, however, we can’t seem to find a way forward. We become increasingly aware that time is passing us by, and nothing is changing. We may begin to feel anxious and/or depressed. Do you feel stuck and unsure of what to do or who to talk to? Through psychotherapy, I help individuals, couples, and families lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
My therapeutic approach is holistic in scope and addresses the psychological, spiritual, and physical dimensions of the human person. In my work with clients, I typically make use of insight-oriented talk therapy, as well as a variety of creative modalities including guided imagery, art, dream work and mindfulness. I believe that therapy is a highly collaborative process between the therapist and the client, and I will tailor my work with you to respond to your individual needs and wants within your unique life context.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia and earned my Masters Degree in Counseling from Loyola College in Maryland. In addition to intensive clinical training in traditional psychotherapies, I have received training in sandtray therapy, directive play therapy, child-centered play therapy, and art therapy interventions. I have also received training in relaxation exercises, grounding techniques, and guided imagery.
Areas of clinical experience include depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, trauma, life transitions, sexual orientation, grief and loss, substance abuse, family restructuring, and neglect and abuse. One of my specialities is working with clients who have international, cross-cultural experiences. Please visit my website (www.MauraKristof.com) for more information.
