| Practice Description: |
We all need support in dealing with life’s challenges but sometimes just asking for help can feel as overwhelming as the problems for which we are seeking support. Asking for help from a therapist is a courageous step. But the task of finding the right therapist can be daunting: Whom can I trust? Will I be heard and understood? Will I feel safe and respected? I understand these concerns and work to create a warm and compassionate therapeutic environment in which to help you grow and change. As a relational therapist, I appreciate the value of a strong connection between the therapist and client. My clients tell me that they appreciate my real and down-to earth presence; my sense of humor, my gentle, direct and honest feedback; and my engaging and interactive way of talking with them. I always work WITH you, collaboratively, to develop an individualized plan to help you achieve your goals. My approach to therapy draws on my training in psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and relational-cultural theories and my work often blends all of these modalities in ways that are influenced by your unique needs. I can honestly say that I really enjoy my work and I feel passionate about helping people to create richer, more fulfilling lives.
I have over 15 years experience working with individuals, couples and groups in a variety of settings. Many of my clients come to me for support in coping with symptoms of depression and anxiety. Others are looking for guidance in dealing with life transitions including aging, divorce, illness, and loss. Some come with questions related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Several are in recovery from substance abuse, eating disorders and trauma. Many couples are looking to learn new ways of communication to enhance connection and intimacy.
Whether you are looking to learn new ways of dealing with familiar behavioral and relational patterns, or are seeking support around a particular life crisis or transition, I will offer you a compassionate, supportive, yet challenging environment in which to achieve your full potential. I look forward to working together.
