| Practice Description: |
I use a solution focused approach which focuses on the present needs and future vision of the client. While the past is important, it is also important to construct with the client, a goal for future success. To do that, I listen for strengths, abilities and resources of the client, often in the past, which leads us together to find strategies. By working this way, the client is familiar with past successes and strategies, increasing the possibility of being successful again.
With families, I believe no one person causes family disruptions. Instead, when families get off track in their relationships with each other, a child or adolescent may cry out in the form of acting out. With family therapy, together, we set goals for family success, which includes listening to everyone involved. It is always amazing to see a child or adolescent give up misbehavior when they know their parents are getting along.
As a former school counselor, I work with students of all ages who are struggling in school by visiting the student's school and serving as a mediator between teachers and students. This allows me to understand the student and school's view and steer everyone toward a successful outcome.
I have worked with children, adolescents and families for over twenty years. I have written ten books on solution focused therapy and present internationally.
My most successful accomplishment is being married for 37 years and rearing three wonderful children, all college grads. I spend time with my husband and two golden retrievers, both named Rex.
