| Practice Description: |
We all feel frustrated, confused, and stuck in our lives at one point or another. Sometimes, external situations beyond our control create problems and sometimes, it is our own thinking and actions that seem to keep our lives stressed and unmanageable. I help people explore those things that seem to be keeping them from creating the life they want to live, either individually or as a couple. Once problematic areas have been identified then I support clients in changing those things they are able to change.
In working with clients I employ a family systems approach as I believe we learn many of our values and beliefs in the families in which we grew up. One of our tasks as adults is to sort through which of those values and beliefs truly reflect who we are today and which we have adopted in order to please others. I understand that it can be challenging to be true to ourselves and also remain relationally connected to those people who are important to us. Developing and maintaining our personal integrity is not only possible but desirable and fulfilling.
I hold a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from George Fox University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC I). I have worked in both an agency setting and a private group practice. I now maintain a private practice in the suburbs of southwest Portland.
