| Practice Description: |
Trained at Princeton University and the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy, I have over 30 years experience helping couples to improve their relationships. In my experience, a good relationship or marriage depends largely on good communication. Good communication, in turn, depends mostly on the open and honest expression of feelings.
As you begin to express your feelings to each other, I believe you will see that you get stuck in certain vicious cycles or repetitive patterns. Your partner's reaction to something you do or say will trigger an emotional reaction or feeling in you which will then trigger something in your partner, etc. For example, you may feel emotionally abandoned by your partner and actively seek out connection with him or her. Your partner may then feel pressured or nagged by this and withdraw. The more your partner withdraws the more you seek out connection - and you're off to the races.
I help you, first, to identify the "dance" you are stuck in. Once you are clear about the moves you each make in this dance, you can then begin to change them and create a more harmonious and intimate relationship.

| Additional Comments: |
I have over 30 years of experience working in marriage and family counseling or therapy. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and a Masters degree from Princeton University. I received my advanced, post-graduate training in marriage and family therapy from the Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). I have received training in all of the major techniques of couples therapy, including Imago, PREP and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). But, I find that EFT generally produces the deepest and longest-lasting change in couples and I use it the most in my practice.
Perhaps just as importantly, I have been married 34 years and have three children, two ten-year-old twin daughters and an eighteen year-old son. |
