| Practice Description: |
Not getting enough of what you want in your life? I focus on techniques for "Intentional Living." My practice style is interactive. This means that much of our time together will be spent with both of us talking about the issues you face. During the sessions, scheduled to last 45 minutes each, we will explore the issues you bring and find new ways for you to think and act so that you can make desired changes. The goal of our work together will be to identify those areas that have become obstacles to improving your life, your relationships and your personal contentment. Once the obstacles are identified, I will work to help you overcome those obstacles and learn to do more of what works in your life, and less of what doesn’t. As always, personal gains made in therapy result from a combination of the therapist’s skills and the client’s active involvement and follow through.
Depending on your self-identified goals, I offer treatment in several modalities: * Behavioral Therapy is helpful for specific behavioral challenges such as fears that seem to take over, and habits you’ve been trying to break. * Insight-Oriented Therapy is intended to help you understand your challenges, discover their origins and current impact in your life, and help you find ways to use your awareness to make changes. * Existential Therapy aims to help you explore the interaction between your “world view” and the life problems you are experiencing, and develop new ways to understanding how to use your strengths.
For African-American clients I specialize in the unique acculturation issues that African-Americans encounter in our society, particularly in cross-cultural relationships at work or at home.
My professional experience includes more than 30 years in public mental health programs providing direct service, training, and consultation, and more than 10 years in private practice.
