| Practice Description: |
I specialize in stress-reduction and treatment of anxiety problems. I also see families, adolescents and couples, and offer psychological testing and evaluation services. I take a warm, evidence-based approach, combining highly up-to-date methods with a gentle and practical style.
I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy when working with individuals, and a Family Systems approach when working with families. I also incorporate Mindfulness Training for some individuals. Mindfulness Training is an evidence-based treatment modality for anxiety and other stress-based conditions which involves learning to remain present in this moment.
Once initial goals of feeling calmer and better have been achieved, therapy can be a way to rediscover what is truly valuable to you, and a way to reconnect to those things that you value. Leading a life filled with things we value is the secret to experiencing joy and meaning.

Surprisingly, the more we learn to accept things as they are, the more easily we can make changes and move forward. I encourage clients to strike a balance between self-acceptance on the one hand, and learning new skills on the other. I am trained in an evidence-based model of practice, and I believe progress in psychotherapy should be observable and tangible. In order to balance change with self-acceptance, I draw upon two complementary approaches, depending on the needs of the individual. The first is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, which is a change-oriented treatment approach that involves examining how one thinks and behaves, working to increase the helpfulness of one’s “self-talk," and then practicing new and more effective ways of dealing with the situations we face in the world. The second is Mindfulness Training, which is an acceptance-oriented approach that involves paying close, intimate attention to the present moment throughout one's waking day, and can include training in meditation. When working with families, I use a family-systems approach, which is another evidence-based treatment model that emphasizes how the family works as a whole. Families are systems in which every person affects every other person. Every member of the family then is involved in the process of strengthening the family. Please see "About Therapy" in this website for more information about these treatment approaches. |
