| Practice Description: |
I have a special interest in helping those who have transcended a difficult childhood to become successful adults, but aren't happy and wonder why.
Resourceful, intelligent children manage hardship by putting aside their own needs and feelings in order to do what is required of them. Later in life that same resourcefulness and intelligence leads to success, but what was put aside can adversely affect well-being, self-image and relationships. Because the past intrudes itself into the present in an automatic way, there is often no notice of how unresolved conflicts continue to influence, though it may be clear that something is wrong.
I work openly and actively to help my patients increase self-awareness and acquire a deeper understanding of the influence of the past so that what has been lost can be recovered. As hidden contributors and agendas become conscious, old defenses can be examined as to their usefulness and new perspectives and options considered. Separating truth from facade leads to better relationships, a more compassionate view of self, and, with all aspects in play, a sense of balance personally and professionally.
