Therapy is a way to get in touch with parts of yourself that are disconnected. DW Winnicott described disconnection in terms of a true and false self. As we grow up we learn to adapt to our environment and our caregivers to maintain a relationship. We may keep our thoughts and emotions to ourselves.
I am eclectic in my approach. I am a good listener, but I am not a silent partner, because in therapy what is important is the relationship that develops between the two of us.
You are coming into therapy because there is something you can't work out and you need help from someone else. Working together can be very healing. It is important that you feel you are in a safe environment, where you will be able to talk without feeling impinged upon.
