| Practice Description: |
I’d like to share a little about the way I work and my values. I believe very much that healing in our lives comes in many ways, but usually it is tied to relationships that have kindness, respect, and patience. It is my aspiration in working with individuals to incorporate these values. I am a Buddhist and have been practicing meditation for 16 years. I bring this sensibility to my work through focusing on the present and noticing how our lives have a natural rising and falling quality to them. My Buddhist background has taught me that most people have the wisdom they already need to approach their life’s challenges, but often this wisdom gets clouded over by our inability to view ourselves clearly. With this in mind, I see my role as a therapist as helping people tap into their clear seeing or wisdom, and applying that deep knowing to whatever the issues are that brought someone to therapy. I am also a gay man and I have been out of the closet for decades. I am very comfortable working with any issues around being a sexual minority, and particularly enjoy helping people who are just coming out.
I am also trained in EMDR. EMDR is a theraputic intervention that is very effective in lessening the side effects of traumatic events in a person's life. It can be helpful in assisting people with anxiety, phobias, past disturbing events, and childhood abuse.
