| Practice Description: |
For over 45 years I have had a busy, gratifying practice working with adults and couples (mixed gender or same gender) to help people sort out life’s difficult dilemmas such as loss of a loved one, divorce, infidelity and life transitions. I am a clinical social worker in private practice. I am also clinical associate professor of psychiatry at University of Vermont Medical College where I lecture and consult and have expertise in clinical sexology.
I use a combination of therapies which include psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive -behavioral techniques. When choosing a therapist, I believe that a person should expect confidentiality, privacy, respect and, most of all, a professional and competent therapist. My most recent book is: In the Grip of Desire: A Therapist at Work with Sexual Secrets.

| Additional Comments: |
Therapy is a collaborative process for the client and therapist. Together we will decide upon the goals of therapy. You are always the expert on you. I will do an initial evaluation and share my diagnostic impressions. Together we will make a treatment plan that will target the goals we have decided upon. I often suggest reading materials and education about the issues we are working on. With couples, I use structured and collaborative exercises to do at home as well. I believe you should expect confidentiality, support, validation and a safe, private place within which you can explore your feelings and find solutions to your dilemmas ~ a place to work through problems and heal from trauma. I use a combination of therapies which include psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral techniques. I welcome questions by telephone to help you decide if therapy is the right choice for you and if I am the right person for you. |
