| Practice Description: |
If you have binge or compulsive overeating problems I want to help you. If you have struggled with weight problems that are related to overeating, I want to help you reach your healthy goal weight.
My doctoral research focused on the causes of binge eating disorder. The 350 women who participated in my research study taught me so much about why they binge as well as about the pain associated with their binge and compulsive eating. I learned that feelings of anxiety, depression, and unexpressed anger often precede binge eating. I learned that individuals who binge or who compulsively overeat often turn to food for comfort and to avoid facing their life problems.
I offer care and support to my patients as they learn to tune into their emotions and learn to manage anxiety, anger, and sadness in healthy ways that do not depend on food. We work to identify , prioritize, and manage the life problems the patient faces, as together we find a way that works for the patient to manage food and weight issues.
I use a combination of a cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal psychodynamic approach that works!
