Karrie Lager, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist with over ten years experience working collaboratively with children, adolescents, and adults to help them reach their aspirations and live the life they envision. Providing a genuine and safe environment, Dr. Lager supports individuals and families as they tell their story and explore ways to build upon their strengths, enhance their coping and problem solving skills, and improve the quality of their relationships. Dr. Lager’s specialties include working with children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety and depression, ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, asperger's disorder, PDD, behavioral problems, trauma and loss, work-related stress, and relationship issues. In addition to individual and family therapy, Dr. Lager offers parenting workshops, social skills groups, and psychological and educational testing. Dr. Lager also specializes in evidence based treatments including the following:
Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidenced based treatment program proven to effectively improve the quality of the parent-child relationship, reduce children’s behavioral difficulties, and decrease parenting stress. The PCIT program includes weekly sessions in which the therapist coaches the parent behind a one way mirror and through a hearing device placed in the parent’s ear, while the parent and child play together. In PCIT, parents are taught specific techniques to establish a nurturing and secure relationship with their child while increasing their child’s positive behaviors and decreasing unwanted behaviors. When working with families, Dr. Lager collaborates with parents to build their children’s social and emotional competency, communication skills, academic potential, creativity, and problem solving skills.
Incredible Years is an award-winning parent training, teacher training, and child social skills training recognized as a best practice and evidence based treatment for children with behavioral difficulties. Incredible Years is designed to promote social competence and prevent, reduce, and treat behavioral problems and aggression in babies, toddlers, young children, and school-aged children. Dr. Lager incorporates elements of the Incredible Years program into her fun, interactive parenting workshops, teacher trainings, and social skills group for children.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an empirically supported treatment model designed to assist individuals and their families in the aftermath of traumatic experiences. Specific TF-CBT techniques include emotional regulation skills, strengthening stress management skills to cope with trauma reminders, cognitive and affective processing of the trauma experiences, enhancing a sense of safety and trust, and education about healthy interpersonal relationships and self-care.
Please call Dr. Lager to further discuss whether her experience and expertise might be a good match for you.
