Let's face it, most individuals don't just surf the Internet and accidentally find themselves on psychologists' websites. The issue that motivated your navigation here may be reoccurring or new, but it is probably safe to say, it is an unresolved issue. Not everyone wants resolution. The discomfort may be bearable or they may benefit in some way... so they continue to entertain excuses instead of solutions. But if you are seeking professional help, you are probably interested in some type of resolution or at least insight.
The decision to seek professional help can be difficult. It requires an individual to be honest with themselves about something painful in their life - and a decision to take control. For some, it may have been a long journey to finally seek help for a very debilitating issue. For others, it may just be a bump in the road and looking for a little extra help. For most, it requires deciding that your allegiance to yourself matters more than what others think. Whatever the reason, congratulations on your decision to better your life.
Consider what it took you to get here and consider making the same investment in seeking your solution. Do not compromise when finding a professional. Take the time to find a licensed, educated, experienced professional that you can relate to. It is your life and worth positively investing in it! My approach to therapy is honest and straightforward ("psychobabble" available upon request), with a preference for brief, solution oriented sessions whenever possible. I have a doctoral degree, extensively trained, practicing over 15 years, with most of my referrals coming from former clients!
