Clinical Social Worker/Therapist

Psychotherapy/Counseling Consultation Services to Employers Critical Incident Stress Debriefing

| Practice Description: |
I have been in the mental health field for 34 years, spending the first 11 of those years managing chemical dependence programs. In 1984 I moved to WA to set up my private practice. In addition, at that time, I became the Executive Director of my professional association the National Association of Social Workers, WA State Chapter, and became an instructor at the Seattle University Addiction Studies Program. I also conducted workshops up and down the West coast on a variety of addiction and mental health topics.
I consider the counseling relationship to be a partnership in which one seeks an understanding of the stressors that are affecting their life, and learns of strategies that will help alleviate those stressors. Since this partnership is based upon trust and mutual respect, it is important for the client to meet a profession who best meets those needs.
I use a variety of counseling techniques and modalities developed from my long career as a clinical social worker. I apply those techniques that best "fit" each individual issue and only with the active participation of the client.
The counseling relationship is only the beginning - the real work begins when the clients leaves my office and applies the knowledge, understanding and the "tools" learned in the therapy office.
