Psychotherapy/Counseling Lacanian Psychoanalysis Psychoanalysis
|
| Practice Description: |
My experience in Lacanian psychoanalysis orients and supports the session as a space and time for a unique kind of listening, or "hearing" if you will. Unlike other places where a person speaks of his or her suffering, my action is guided by offering something other than another ear to the series of friends, family, and supportive figures who constitute the life of the human being who asks for help. By approaching suffering from an active and questioning place rather than a place of knowing, I support the active participation of the client to elaborate and construct a new knowledge in the place of repetitive symptoms, failed relationships, and helplessness that are often characteristic of the reasons people ask for help from a therapist or psychoanalyst.
In the course of the treatment it is important to work with the dream to identify and construct an other logic and another discourse than the compliant that is readily available to the person who arrives for consultation. The therapeutic encounter creates a space for a new kind of speech to emerge. As what had heretofore remained unspeakable, unknown, and unconscious, finds a way to articulate itself in the treatment, the suffering that disrupts the life of the person begins to transform itself into a new desire to know more about why and how one's lot in life (one's unique cultural, ethnic, historic, and familial circumstances) can find expression in the world resulting in a work and a vocation.
