| Practice Description: |
As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice for over 25 years, I've worked with businesspeople, physicians, academics, homemakers, scientists, students, and artists. Using a combination of professional and personal skills that include insight, practicality, empathy humor and warmth, I try to help people understand and resolve their difficulties and struggles with personal relationships, work, family, and career issues --- and to find and maximize their strengths. I think that people use psychotherapy both to resolve deep seated difficulties from the past and to make headway with the more immediate issues in their present day lives.
My approach is interactive, using a psychoanalytic context to understand current difficulties. While clients want to better deal with long-standing issues rooted in the past, they also want present - oriented help resolving these troubles. I primarily do intensive insight-oriented work, but work in shorter, focused modes when indicated.
In addition to my doctoral degree in clinical psychology, I have completed post doctoral training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, teach, am involved in psychoanalytic psychotherapy organizations at the local and national levels. I have also written and delivered professional papers at both the local and national level for over a decade.
I charge within a fee range commensurate with my training and experience. I also accept some insurance payments and am happy to help you navigate through the often confusing insurance system if requested.
