| Practice Description: |
I am a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who has also received Dharma Transmission as a Zen Teacher from Charlotte Joko Beck, and I am the founding teacher of the Ordinary Mind Zendo in New York City. I have been at the forefront of the movement to integrate psychoanalytic psychotherapy with Buddhist meditation both at a theoretical and clinical level. I am the author of Ordinary Mind: Exploring the Common Ground of Zen and Psychoanalysis (Wisdom 2002) and Ending the Pursuit of Happiness (Wisdom 2008). As a psychoanalyst, I have written extensively from a self psychological and relational perspective and am currently on the Executive Board of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. (IARPP).
I am particularly interested in working with those who are trying to integrate some form of spiritual practice and meditation into their daily life and therapy.
