| Practice Description: |
My personal style is to be straightforward, active and involved when counseling. I try to be as open and honest as possible, while always keeping a sense of humor about life and the difficulties we all encounter. I think it is important to look for the commonalities in our experiences, to better understand and respect one another. I try to maintain an office that is warm and inviting, so that there is a feeling of safety that will enhance self-exploration and growth.
My theoretical approach is an integrated one. From a psychodynamic perspective, I believe in looking at how past experiences affect current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In particular, I try to help people see how prior experiences helped to shape their beliefs and expectations, and how those in turn affect the way they experience life. From a psychoeducational perspective, I often incorporate an educational component in my work with clients – providing information about theory and research to help them gain self-understanding. From a cognitive-behavioral perspective, I believe in employing practical methods such as behavioral exercises and thought-changing techniques to help accelerate the processes of growth and change. Finally, from a humanistic perspective, I trust that people naturally wish to improve themselves and to enhance their life experience.
