| Practice Description: |
AATPC is the first counseling center in the nation that specializes in providing counseling to people of all ages with the assistance of animals. We provide counseling in a non-traditional setting - our 100 year old house and ranch offer a welcome retreat to work on whatever issues you face. Each therapist works with a trained therapy dog, as well as our goats and horses. We also have a therapy cat! Sessions may take place in one of our offices, our beautiful gazebo, the horse arena, or taking a walk in our quiet neighborhood. All our therapists are highly experienced, as well as trained in the specialty of Animal Assisted Therapy. You'll do more than pet a dog during your session. The animals are integrated into your treatment whenever possible, which can make therapy more interesting and engaging.
We started this Center because we believe in the powerful effect animals have in healing and facilitating change. Therapists are all highly trained and many are licensed in the fields of psychology, counseling and social work. Each therapist has a unique working relationship with their animal, based on trust, respect and compassion. Therapists are brought in to complement each other with different training and specialties to meet a wide variety of client needs, including integration of different types of animals. At our Counseling Center we have dogs, cats, horses and baby goats available to clients of all ages.
As the first counseling agency in nation to provide animal assisted therapy as its focus, the Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado provides a unique array of community-based counseling and psychotherapy services for clients of all ages and with a variety of mental health-related concerns. Based on research-supported techniques of animal assisted therapy, all of our professional therapists work with a trained animal partner to accomplish therapeutic goals in a cost-effective and timely manner.
Our counseling center is private, comfortable and warm. Clients and their families have access to a range of animals during their visit and we make every attempt to help our clients feel at home.
